Daily activities that improve health condition
May 25, 2011
Researchers have found that a regular morning diet of 600 calories helps one lose more weight compared to those who only ate 300 calories for breakfast. Contrary to common belief, bacon and eggs are not unhealthy foods. One whole egg contains more essential nutrients than any other food, aside from being an excellent source of choline (helps break down fat in the body to be used for energy).

Egg pizza (a.ka. dinner frittata)
May 24, 2011
"Egg pizza" just sounds a little more enticing to my kids than "frittata." So that's what we call it around here.  I just made this one last night, and it was met with great enthusiasm.  I barely had a leftover piece big enough to save for my husband's lunch.  I like making it because it needs no preparing ahead of time, and many of the ingredients can vary according to what you have on hand.  I just pull the ingredients out of the fridge while I'm heating my pan and whip up this yummy kid-friendly dinner in no time!

Preserving your customer base with antioxidants
May 23, 2011
Eggs have come into their own as hot-button ingredients, full of antioxidants, not to mention protein and minerals. "What's old is new again," claims the American Egg Board, adding that eggs are a go-to food for Americans seeking a return to the basics. Egg fillings in breakfast and lunch wraps, custards, quiches and frittatas are making a comeback. With antioxidant varieties, such as lutein for eye health and sialic acid for stomach care, eggs should be top-of-mind when formulating for optimum health profiles.

Nutrition: Are you eating enough to fuel your cycling?
May 23, 2011
By Dr. Kevin Currell
Research has shown that if you eat straight after training you're less likely to overeat later on in the day. If you're training twice a day or more this process is essential to make the most of the second session. The range of nutrient intakes is large to take account of different training intensities; the harder the training the more you need. To put this in real food terms, one slice of bread contains around 12g of carbs, and an egg contains 6g of protein.

Eggs: Friend or foe?
May 21, 2011
By Toby Amidor, M.S., R.D.
As for being the perfect protein, eggs contain 90 percent of the amino acids your body needs - more than any other food. Other nutrients include vitamins E, B12, D, A, selenium and omega-3 fats. Egg yolks contain lutein and choline. Lutein gives eggs their yellow hue and helps maintain healthy eyes and skin. Choline helps build the material that creates your body's cell walls. It also plays an important role in the nervous system, and current research suggests that it has an essential role in fetal brain development throughout pregnancy. One egg contains almost 30 percent of your daily-recommended amount of choline.

Despite the bad rap eggs have been given over the years, they are an extremely healthy food. According to new research, eggs are lower in cholesterol than previously thought and contain essential vitamins and nutrients such as: Vitamin B12, A, D, and E. Eggs are an excellent source of protein and contain choline, lutein, and zeaxanthin, which help in memory function and reduce the risk of cataracts.
